smoke detector alarm triggered power strip

3d printed extension box for relais next to power strip

how this works:

• buy a cheap smoke detector
• connect a cable on pin7 from chip inside smoke detector (there are 9V DC comming out when alarm is triggered) works with almost every smoke detector!
• bring this signal to a voltage divider and then to a 5V arduino relay shield (needs separate small 5V power supply)
• put all the electronics in the 3d printed extension box next to your power strip

you can also put a small powersupply inside the 3d printed enclosure, so the smoke detector doesn't need any battery. Smoke detectors usually can handle 8-12V DC.

Custom thoughts:

I used two relais in series for redundancy.

I used one 12V power supply with a small buck converter for the 5V relays and some diodes to lower the voltage inside the smoke detector close to 9V DC.

Don't forget to test your smoke detector before glueing everything together with hotglue.

Hint for people in Switzerland:

If you also buy everything from Doit+Garden Migros, then you shouldn't have to adjust any 3d files.
