Open Source Hardware Cabinet Knob (parametric)

A knob/handle for your cabinet/drawer with the Open Source Hardware logo. As the model is parametric, you can easily change the model to fit all of your cabinets (see the chapter “Parameters” below). The knob's design allows you to grab it in multiple different ways, making it also more accessible to people with diverse abilities. This model complies with the Open Source Hardware definition, so the Fusion 360 design files are available for download.

Printing settings

Prints nicely without supports in PLA (or any other material) at 0.20 mm layer height in the default model orientation. The model is very easy to print by any printer, as it doesn't have any overhangs or other challenging features. If you print one of the versions with holes, I would recommend you add a part modifier in your slicer to print the part surrounding the hole with 100 % infill, to make it stronger to screw into:

The filament used in the photos is Polymaker PolyTerra PLA Arctic Teal.

Versions

There are three versions:

1. one hole
   • for knob style drawers, to use with screws
   • STL is designed to fit IKEA Kallax drawers (3.65 mm hole diameter, 14 mm hole depth)
2. two holes
   • for handle style drawers, to use with screws
   • STL has hole diameters of 3.6 mm, a hole depth of 15 mm and the distance between the two holes is 32 mm.
3. no holes
   • to glue onto drawers/cabinets without holes

Parameters

You can modify this design in Fusion 360 using parameters to make it fit a variety of different drawers/cabinets. You can change the parameters by clicking on Solid → Modify → Change Parameters.

Attribution

The original designer of the open hardware logo is Macklin Chaffee, who won the community contest for the logo design in 2011.
