Description
Recently, I found a nice bottle cap opener model designed by Chya (https://www.printables.com/model/35588-bottle-cap-opener-v2) that prints and works great.
Here are some simple steps that allows adding a cavity for a magnet using nothing but PrusaSlicer. The magnet shape is cylindrical and the dimensions are 8mm x 4mm.
Drop the model in PrusaSlicer. Orient the model for proper printing. On the right side panel, right click on the model name and select “Add negative volume" → Cylinder".
Once the new object is created, select it. Unlock the padlock located on the lower left side of the panel. This allows non-proportional scaling. Change the dimensions of the cylinder to 8.2, 8.2 and 4.2 to allow some tolerance and allow the magnet to be pressed-fit into the opening. Note: Depending on your printer settings, you may want to allow more tolerance - i.e. increase X and Y to 8.3mm and Z to 4.3.
Now, press “2” to select bottom view and using the move tool, located on the left side of the main window, drag the new cylinder to the location that you want to add the magnet. Note: When the new cylinder is added and scaled, the initial location may be away from the bed. Use the move tool to bring the cylinder down to the bed level.
Once you are happy with the location of the new cylinder, slice and print your model as normal.
The attached .3mf file has the magnet already located. You may change the dimension of the cylinder if you have a different magnet size. Just remember to unlock the padlock to allow non-proportional scaling.
Hope you find this useful.
