One year ago my Lagoon headset broke at the frame. Thus i looked on the Beyerdynamic website for spares but they had no new frame for these headpones. So i repaired them with a 3d printed bracket wich worked just fine until the other side of the headset broke. By accident i found an electrically broaken dt 770 pro for a few bugs on Ebay and bought those. I addapted the frame of the dt 770 pro to the Lagoon ANC which was a bit of a pain to do. But in the end it worked. I used the old cables of the Lagoon headset but ive drilled holes in the top of the ear pieces because the dt 770 frame has no internal cable management. A week ago i wanted to get new earpads for the headset. Looking on the Beyerdynamic Website i ralized that beyerdynamic has canceled theyr support for the lagoon anc Headset and that you cant get new earpads anymore. So i remembered that i still have the old earpads of the dt 770 pros and i modelled an adapter plate to use them instead of the old ones of the Lagoon. It totaly worked and now i hopefully have an Headset wich will last for ever.
if you want to replecate the conversion i have some tips for you.
- if you cant solder or you have never repaired stuff you shouldnt try this conversion
- be very carefull with the disassambly of the old frame you need the old cable
- the glued in cables are very hard to get out. Use heat and patience
- you have to be carefull with the ribbon cables
- you have to solder away the cables and then reattatch them afterwards (note the colour of the cable and where it belongs)
- you maybe can use also some other Beyerdynamic headsets in the dt 770 pro formfactor but you have to find it out by your own
- you need some special torx bits (I reccoment the i fixit toolkit but any other will work just fine)
- it may not work at all so i would only do this mod with broaken headsets
- the mod can take a while
- use some silicone to seal the adapter tho the loudspeakers of the headset (i have designed some holes for the screws that you can exess the electronics)
- you have to make the old cables about 5cm longer, i simply put some shrinking tubes above the loose ends of the cable. it doesnt really matter because you dont split the cable anymore
- Also ive used a small zipptie to secure the cable inside the headset that it cant pull itself out
- if you need some help you can contact me but i cant guarantee you that i can help you with your problem (i speak German and English).
- if you have read those Points and decided to follow them i wish you good luck : )
- and i think now they are more comfortable than before the repair
