Description

Hello!

So, it was that time again, another broken phone holder. They work ok for a while but after some time they just are made to be replaced by a new one…

So I decided to put my 3D cad design skills to the test :) Actually, this resolution happened in September of 2021, one month after I bought my 1st 3D printer and this was my 1st "big" project. This design was in beta test in my car for the past year, and, not being perfect, I'm happy with it (more important than me being happy, my wife is also :D ), so I'm releasing it to the community.

Small disclaimer, but important one: this was made for a 2014 Renault Megane. It is possible that it will work for your car or not… The part that connects to the car might have to be redesigned for your needs.

This is a Glue needed build.

It will also require 1 rubber band.

Printing Instructions:

Don't use PLA. A car in the sun will heat up a lot. PLA is not going to survive it.

Material: PETG (or similar)

Infill: 15%

Supports: No

Change filament during print: Only if you want

Brim: Not needed

Raft: No

All models are print ready oriented.

You can choose between a cover with or with logo.

You need to print 2 pins.

Assemble Instructions:

Start by inserting the left, right and bottom support in the box.

Then fit the 2 pins to connect the left arm to the bottom support and the right arm to the bottom support.

This way when there is height in the bottom, the arms will hug the mobile phone, locking it in place.

The movement in the beginning can be a little hard. Move it up and down a few times until you have a smooth movement.

Now the rubber band part, place it between the mark spots bellow:

In the end you should have something like this:

At this stage, you should test it with your phone. This will validate if the rubber band is to strong or not. A too strong rubber band will prevent the mobile phone to trigger the arms to lock the phone in place. If that is the case replace the rubber band until the setup works.

Then you need to glue the cover in. Little grooves were made in the box to help the task. Careful not to glue the arms or the bottom support.

Finally the car connector. In the back of the box there is a groove where the connector will be glued:

After that is done you can now attach it to your car (if it fits, see disclaimer above).

After inserting it in the lock it in place with the screw.

Hope it works for you as well as it did for me.
