The latest in 'Cool-stepper' technology!
I designed this thing to cool the z motor on my cnc, but it can be used on any NEMA-17 motor with enough clearance around the sides and back. It uses a 40mm fan. The square duct cross section measures 55mm along the vertexes. The duct protrudes ~15mm from the back of the motor (not including the fan thickness).
To make it, print one stl as is, no supports or rotation required. I used ABS with 0.3mm layers, but other filaments and settings will work. Use screws or bolts to mount a 40mm fan to the duct, blowing in towards the motor. Then rotate the assembly such that the slot on the duct lines up with the motor wires, and snap the tabs onto the back of the motor. The duct should feel firmly secured to the motor. If there is any wobbling, you may need to rotate/wiggle the duct into place. After the assembly is secured to the motor, connect the fan to a suitable power source and enjoy!
