Description
The stock Anet A8 setup can jerk the spool around too much during travel moves, which can tangle up the filament, especially when you use a low friction spool handler (like this: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1241566). The solution is adding a 2mm PTFE guide tube secured to the frame on one end, and shoved into the top of the extruder on the other end (like a bowden setup with the motor on the wrong side). This thing secures the PTFE tube to the frame using a standard bowden tube slip fitting. The fit on my a8 is perfect, but I added some masking tape to the frame before sliding mine on to create more friction. This isn't really necessary, but it helps prevent rotation on the frame when the tube bends during very tall prints, or when I'm nearing the end of a spool and the filament starts springing up.

Notes:
I used 3x 0.45mm walls and 5x 0.3mm top/bottoms (~1.4mm thick shell). You need the extra meat to tap the threads.
You don't need to go out and buy a blind tap, just order an extra tube fitting if you don't already have one on hand. The spare fitting can easily be modified with a dremel cutoff disc to make the perfect tap for the threads. Just cut 2 or 3 evenly spaced slots perpendicular to the threads. Don't cut all the way through, but deep enough to cut the full thread pattern plus a little room for chip clearance. Try to finesse the dremel to get ~90degrees rake angle on the cutting edge if your makeshift tap isn't cutting clean. A 10mm socket driver also helps hold holds it straight (the tapered hole makes it even easier). I use this method all the time when I have to cut a thread in plastic but don't have a tap of the correct size on hand. This tiny blind taper threaded hole is a perfect application. Don't forget to put this little gem in your tap storage box when done. ;)
If the small filament hole needs cleaning, drill it through with a 2mm or #47 bit.License:
