Description
This is a minimal headphone dock for Sony's 1000MX3 headphones. I found my headphone constantly running out of battery and wanted a place dedicated to charging them so they were always topped up (since I use them for 8 hours a day). I went through several variations but landed on a stand with a super small footprint with some nifty charging features.
It's my very first 3D print model for production (so pardon some of the janky details), any constructive criticism is welcome!
I added support for the base when over 45º and overall the model prints pretty well. I did get some warping but that was due to my heat bed malfunctioning (mostly fixed with hot water and sanding)
The baseplate is optional which can be used to close off electronics and mount to a shelf/desk. I used super short conical wood screws to attach the baseplate to the main box.
To finish off this stand I wet sanded and covered with around 5 layers of Plasti-dip to give a rubberized finish that matches the headphones and grips onto them better.
For electronics, I used a normal USB C cable cut in half spliced together with a switch, resistor, and led. This allows control of charging, and in theory, would prevent overcharge. Was it overkill? Maybe, but it looks pretty cool. If you are interested the diagram is below (shoutout to my brother for sketching this up).
