Description

A holder for the Shaviv HandyChuck pin vise (and C50 scraper) compatible with Zack Freedman's Gridfinity System

Using the default parameters the holder is 1x1x12 in Gridfinity dimensions or roughly 42x42x84mm. With a tool installed almost all the weight of the HandyChuck is at the front which is toward the bottom of the holder. Thus even though the holder + pin vise combo is pretty tall it sits solid with no tendency to tip over.

Oh, if you're wondering why the holder is two colors in some of the pictures, I ran out of light gray halfway through the print.

Design

Created in OpenSCAD, source file provided. OpenSCAD customizer settings provided for several Gridfinity options as well as the geometry of the pin vise cutout. The depth of the center hole in the cutout (where the jaws and installed tool are located) is calculated based on the Gridfinity height. The calculated depth is written to the OpenSCAD console. With the default settings the depth is ~39mm which provides room for 25-30mm of stick out with the C50 scraper.

OpenSCAD Dependencies

The design uses the excellent Gridfinity Rebuilt and BOSL2 OpenSCAD libraries. You will need both of these installed if you want to use the .scad file. Gridfinity Rebuilt obviously provides all the Gridfinity specific things like base shape and grid heights. BOSL2 provides a number of tools that OpenSCAD life much easier.

Printing

Printed in Atomic Filament PETG on a Prusa MK3S with Revo V6 hot-end. 0.6mm nozzle. Sliced in PrusaSlicer 2.5.0. 0.3mm layer height. 15% Support Cubic infill. No supports needed.

When slicing pay attention to where the layer seams are on the inside of the cutout. I've provided a relief in the upper part of the cutout to keep the seams from interfering with the fit (as shown in the last photo).
