Description
I did this modification because I got tired of pressing out the back nut while tightening the fan to the extruder.
I took the original Prusa print-fan-support and solidified the area where the back nut goes and inserted a 4mm hole to accommodate a brass threaded insert. Use soldering iron (set to 300F or 149C) to melt the plastic with the threaded insert to install, see photos. I used a soldering tip designed to work with the insert but you could use a regular clean soldering tip. Some melted plastic will push out the back but it cleans up nicely. I printed this in ASA but PETG will work fine too.
You can obtain the heat insert brass nuts on Amazon as well as the Heat-set insert tips as well - there are variations for specific soldering irons so make sure you pick up the right set.
