Description

My vacuum cleaner has a very nice telescopic extension tube of 1.25 inch diameter. I love this feature, as it allows me to extend the tube to a length that lets me do the vacuuming standing straight up.

Unfortunately the spring mechanism, that locks the telescopic tube into position by pressing into little notches that are on the tube with about one inch of spacing, has worn out over time. Now the mechanism gives in when I push a little harder during the vacuuming and the two pipes slide into each other.

The two parts of this thing can be easily tightened and untightend by hand, using my little M3 screw knob:

The lower part has two grooves for M3 square nuts. For the screwing knob I recommend M3x20 screws with hex head.

Screwed together the two parts fit very snugly to the pipe and will definitively avoid that the inner tube can slide into the outer tube. For storing, simply untighten the screw knobs a bit and slide the complete mechanism towards the end of the tube (where it can not fall off, as the tube gets wider there to accommodate the hose).

Hope this helps to fix your vacuum cleaner as well, so you can improve your green footprint by using it for another 10 years before you buy a new one.

Happy printing!
