Description

Repeatable rips with the Makita track saw.

This is a remix of @cewo's excellent parallel guide design: https://www.printables.com/model/285295-makita-track-saw-parallel-guide-extension-set

Changes in the remix:

  1. Changed to using 19 mm (¾") T-track, which is more readily available where I live.  The T-Track I used is from Axminster as I already had some, but the same size is available from Amazon, Aliexpress and many other sellers.
  2. Reduced the thickness of the stop so it'll sit comfortably on 12 mm plywood.
  3. To fit in the 19 mm T-track, I had to redesign the t-nuts to take M4 screws.
  4. I didn't have the STEP file for the original knobs and had to modify the larger one to take an M4 insert, so while I was at it I changed the design to be a closed top one (which meant creating a hole in the bottom of the stop to allow access for the hex-head set screw, but had the advantage of meaning only one size of set screw is required).
  5. Improved the design of the cap screw counterbores for better printability (as long as you print at 0.2 mm layer height).
Description (from original model):

This fence makes it easy to cut precise strips of exactly the same width when panel cutting.

Two side fences are mounted on the guide rail for this purpose, and the required dimension is set via the adjustable stops.

  • Large time saving when cutting panel strips, as no more measuring or marking is necessary
  • For cuts wider than 300 mm, along the width
  • Tool-less mounting on the guide rail
Print settings:

PETG.  0.2 mm layer height nominal, but can be printed at 0.3 mm if you use the “AnyLayerThickness” version (see below).  I recommend printing the knobs with 4 perimeters as they both have heat-set inserts, but it's probably not essential.

There's a 3MF file included that has all the right settings (including 4 perimeters for the two knobs).

Layer Height:

There are two versions of the body.  The “AnyLayerThickness” version should be fine with a layer height of 0.3 mm or finer.  The “0.2mmLayerThickness” version has a redesigned counterbore for the M4 cap screws that produces a better print quality, but only works properly if you print it with a 0.2 mm layer height.

Hardware Required (per guide - you probably want two guides):
  • 2 × M4×20 Hex head set screw (these are probably called something else in America as I believe “set screw” is used to mean grub screw over there: this is a link to the sort of screw you need).  I used a 25 mm long set screw as I already had some and that worked okay, but it's a little on the long side and I think 20 mm will be better.
  • 2 × M4×10 hex socket cap screw.
  • 2 × M4 nut.
  • 2 × M4 brass heat-set inserts for plastic.
  • T-Track 19 × 9.5 mm (The T-Track I used is from Axminster as I already had some, but the same size is available from Amazon, Aliexpress and many other sellers.)
Remixing:

STEP files are included so you should be able to remix the model fairly easily.  @cewo didn't share STEP files for the knobs or the t-nut that goes into the slot in the guide rail and I didn't need to modify the t-nut or the smaller knob so I've just shared the original STL files for those two parts.  There are STEP files for everything I've modelled.

I've licenced this with the same one as chosen by @cewo as it seemed appropriate.
