Description

Hi guys,

this is a LED Ring lamp for my Nativity Scene Ring Light Art.

You will need:

  • 10 mm wide LED strip, use the highest density LED strip possible, I used 240 leds / meter
  • 2x M3 countersunk screw
  • PETG for the body, white TPU/TPE for the diffuser

Two versions:

  • Q version - Side stand, only one color strip possible as the connector wouldn't be able to pass through the small openings. A cap screws on from back, two versions available, one version for bare wires, second version for barrel jack connector.
  • Base stand version - allows any LED strip to be used, this stand includes holes for the power wire and hole for the IR receiver on the side. To prevent using supports I added 0.2 thick bridge layer which you will need to cut off so print at 0.2 mm layer height. M3 screws are optional here, you can use glue instead

Printing instructions

The walls of the diffuser are 0.5 mm thick so you will need to use standard 0.4 mm nozzle. As mentioned above, if you print the Base stand version use 0.2 mm layer height.

For the body I highly recommend to use PETG as the LED strip can get hot. If you have issues with temp you can line the inside of the ring with aluminium tape which will also reflect more of the light towards diffuser. Win win. Use supports for the body.

For the diffuser you will need white TPU/TPE. No supports needed here but keep the seams aligned to avoid stringing and unnecessary travel moves.

When you have the ring and the stand printed out, join them using the M3 flat head screw which screws in directly into the print or in case of the base version you can use glue instead. Insert LED strip and diffuser and tuck the diffuser inside the ring.

Outer ring diameter is 150 mm so it is printable on Prusa Mini. More sizes available here.

Don't forget to like, post a make or even donate to support me and hit that follow button to not miss more awesome projects like this Finned Lampshade!

As always, .3mf, .stl and .step files are available.

Cheers!

Luke
