Description
This is a snowflake tree ornament of Mary Jackson. The original design for paper is from the Franklin Institute. I printed it in PLA, 0.4mm nozzle, 0.2mm layers, 1mm perimeters. It's 1.2mm thick, with the middle two layers intended to be printed with a transparent/translucent filament to allow light to pass through, hold it together better, and to give it more strength.
Mary Jackson (1921-2005) was an aerospace engineer and mathematician who, through a 34-year career with the United States space program rose to become NASA’s first black female engineer, ultimate becoming one of the most senior engineers in the organization. Her story working with NASA during the space race was chronicled in the film Hidden Figures, which was released in 2016.
