Description

I was looking for gifts to print for my friends this holiday season and stumbled upon arielchu's Pikachu keycap on Thingiverse. In their description they wrote that the model was made by simply adding a low-poly Pikachu model on top of a cherry mx keycap model. I thought this was an incredibly clever and easy concept to replicate so I opened up PrusaSlicer and made a whole low-poly Pokémon keycap army! I used the great Agustin "Flowalistik" Arroyo's library of low-poly Pokemon and added them onto 3dNerdcave's simple Cherry MX keycap. The Pokémon were scaled down significantly to fit on the top face of the keycaps, so I recommend printing with a 0.25mm nozzle, but you should still get decent results with a 0.4mm nozzle.

Pokémon keycaps shown in the cover photo were printed with 0.25mm nozzle, 0.15mm layer height, standard slicer settings for Prusament PETG, and a color change at 9.65mm.

If you would like to replicate this process for a different size/style of keycap or other 3D figures, follow my instructions below:

  1. Download the desired model of Pokémon and keycap
  2. Import just the keycap model into PrusaSlicer
  3. Right click the keycap model on the build plate, scroll down to “Add Part”, and click on “Load …”
  4. Load in the Pokémon model and it will appear intersecting the keycap model
  5. Adjust the scale and position of the Pokemon model so it sits centered on the top of the keycap model
  6. Right click the parent model's name on the right side and scroll down to “Export as STL…”
  7. Keep for yourself or upload for others to enjoy!

Happy Holidays!
