For many hard bound books there is a gap between the spine and binding.  Often folks place a finger at the top edge of the spine to remove the book from the book shelf and end up ruining this edge.  Well, it’s time to look at this differently. 

 You can make a tab that is inserted into this area providing a ridged edge and using this ridged edge to remove the book from the shelf.  This ridged edge keeps the book spine in good shape. 

 Additionally, by adding a simple string tether between this ridged edge and a book mark you create a simple assembly that keeps your book mark handy.  Never misplace your book mark again.
