3D Isometric Hollow Cube Tessellation

A Printables contest entry, 

• Tessellation - where each tile can be placed next to each other making infinitely repeating patterns. But that was easy, it's just a hexagon.
• Isometric Views - when viewed from below, you see a regular hexagon with three diamond-shaped holes; from the side, you see an oddly hollowed-out pyramid; from the top down you see a…
• Optical Illusion - or more specifically the “classic” hollow cube presumably inspired by EC Escher.

While I don't know if Escher was the first to create the isometric hollow cube, but you see him credited a lot for it because of the optical illusions frequently represented in his artwork. 

However he is famously know for the impossible cube as seen in “Man with Cube” which is where I think the miss-accreditation comes from. As a side note, I tried to model it, but it wasn't possible.
