I made multiple hacks to this. I ripped off the back case (need to take off the front screen cover to get at 2 screws to do this). Despite the images in the item description, the orange is not a backlight - it is a single sidelight on the left side. I then replaced the single orange light with a chained pair of white LEDs.

Then I cut the connected 500mah battery and replaced it with a 2500mah version. soldered the battery wires on the board to an adafruit plug, so it could be disconnected easily.

I also cut the am antenna wires and soldered those to a plug. Then soldered a plug to the ferrite core leads (optional).

The original screws were taken out and replaced with m2 hex screws, with 8mm female-female hex standoffs to allow the back shell to be attached to the front easily.
Used original power button. Place ferrite core antenna at bottom of shell, and battery above it. You can use double-sided tape to secure them to the back of the shell if you think they move around too much, but they shouldn't.
