Description
with POWER BUTTON on the front !
Improved model with mechanical POWER BUTTON extension on the front.
An again improved and redesigned body for better print quality. Fits on building plates of all PRUSA Mk3,MK4, CoreOne or bigger..
All parts print without support! See orientation in PRINT files.
Print in PETG recommended (3 perimeters, 25% infill gyroid, 0,20 layer (structural mode))
There is Version V5Z without Power button aswell.
Here is the interactive 3D view of the whole model:

and this is the 3D-explosion model:

I recommend printing the Powerbutton in two colors to improve visibility of the (l) Logo. Use high contrasting colors. This is my favorite scheme:
Few Hardware you will need for assembly:
- Two screws conical hex head with M2,5 x12mm and two corresponding nuts
- One screw M2,5x18mm (It’s the axle for the arm). Align with the line mark on arm and backside of the mount to make inserting easier. See picture on the right side.
- Up to six screws to mount the whole model under desk (M3, Spax, …)
Update 23.09.2025
- Added Version V5z without Power Button by demand
Update 19.03.2025
cosmetic updates to V5P
- Lid (added)
- Mount (smoothened details)
- Arm (smoothened edges)
- Powerbutton (shorter, does not stick as much out)
- Rod (shortened a tiny bit)
the big main body stays unchanged.
The power button should be printed in two colors with filament change orange to black and after some layers back to orange to make the on/off logo more prominent (see foto below)
added V5P+(on special demand):
- cage is 21mm higher in this version (the rest is identical)
- higher cage for more clearance to improve heat distribution
- higher cage for setting Hub onto MacStudio in the cage (f.i. Satechi Hub)
WARNING: the stacking of a Hub onto MacStudio may worsen heat distribution of the Mac! Keep that in mind when stacking. Do that at your own risk!
Update 14.03.2025
FINALLY the working model is released !!
Fits like a glove and works flawlessly :-)
Will add installation instructions and a model with detachable side parts (for those who have probelms with build plate) later this month (3/25).
Update V5P 06.03.2025
corrected some measurements to better fit the MacStudio
Update V5P 05.03.2025
BIG UPDATE !!
New Version with mechanics that have a Power Button on the front that pushes the Button on the back of the mac studio. No need to grab behind the Mac to power on. This is a early release of V5P. Some testing is going on. The files may be updared the other day.
Update V4 26.09.24:
Complete redesign from ground up.
- Better printable without supports (fits on baseplate of PRUSA Mk3,MK4 (21x25cm)
- clean edges, prints clean (online sacrificed layers on bottom of screw holes)
- Apple Logo
- changed text orientation (on user demand)
- Slots for zip ties on the back
- lighter but stronger by changing hexagons on the sides to print friendly orientation.
- old files are still available in "Legacy" folder
- i will add a Version without text about next week (the apple logo still will be there).
Update 4.7.24:
- Model cleanup and optimizing the outline of the model (Version V3d)
- Added a Model that can be printed in 3 parts, for those having trouble printing it in one piece (Version V3c). I still recommend printing it in one piece where ever possible.
- The old model is still aviable in Folder “legacy”Version V5P+ (on special demand):
- cage is 21mm higher in this version (the rest is identical)
- higher cage for more clearance to improve heat distribution
- higher cage for setting Hub onto MacStudio in the cage (f.i. Satechi Hub)
WARNING: the stacking of a Hub onto MacStudio may worsen heat distribution of the Mac! Keep that in mind when stacking. Do that at your own risk!
In all versions there is a little bit of free space over the top of the Mac for air circulation. The cutout of the base is big enough not to interfere with the ventilation inlets on the bottom.
MODEL V4 9/2024 (legacy, no Powerbutton):
This frame is to install Apples MacStudio under a desk. I designed it with Shapr3D to fit in one piece on the buildplate of my Prusa I3 MK3.5S+/MK4S. This was a challenge, because the outline of the MacStudio is at the limits of the measurements of the Prusa standard machine buildplates (21x25cm).
It is printable without supports (PETG recommended). Supports will make the model to big and it then will not fit on the PRUSA build plates.
Installation instructions: For installing under a desk fix one side with two screws first, then carefully bend the frame a bit and insert the MacStudio supporting the Mac with one hand. After that finally insert and fasten the remaining screws. If all screws are fixed you will not be able to insert or take out the Mac anymore.
In most cases 4 screws will be enough to hold the Mac safely in place. For safety reasons and different installation options I designed it with 6 screwholes though you may not need all of them at a time. Just choose the 4 you need. When screwed in the MacStudio cannot be taken out without removing screws from at least one side. Kind of theft protection :-)
V4 (new version). REDESIGN
Printing:
Infill 25% gyroid
no support needed
PETG recommended
0,40 nozzle with 0,20 layer height (pretty standard)
It fits in one piece on the printbed of PRUSA MK3-MK4 with. 21x25x25cm.
If you own a PPRUSA XL: You're the best.
Version V3c (multipart) - now to be found in legacy folder
For those that cannot print the model in one piece, there is now a version consisting of three separate parts. For assembly you need M3 bolts and Nuts (M3x35mm and M3x20mm).
Update 2023-09-19. added Version „high“ - now in legacy folder
By demand I added a 7,5cm (3inch) higher version V3f. This Version is for those who want to place something on top of the MacStudio under the desk like a Thunderbolt dock or a MacMini i.e.. To keep this higher version stable I had to ad those „ribs“ on the sides. I have not printed this higher Version 3f because l myself don’t have a usecase for it. So if you printed it feel free to write in the comments if it works for you (or why not). A foto of your make is very much appreciated !
Please show me your results and send me fotos of your makes. I like to see how you use this model. If you have ideas for improvement don’t hesitate to send them to me in the comments. I will try to incorporate your suggestions and will modify the model for special needs if you ask me to do so.
And of course a like ♥ or a rating ⭐ of the design are always welcome.
happy printing, clamikra
