Polygon box (organizer / IKEA SKÅDIS compatible)

This is a printed box/container with holes on all sides. The box is about the size of a iPhone 14 Pro (internally), with a height of half that. It comes with an optional slide-in-place removable lid, and hooks for mounting it to Ikea SKÅDIS wall organizing system. Use as a desktop organizer, a gift wrapper or mount it to SKÅDIS.

I designed this as a “gift wrapper” for seven bars of chocolate (hint: modifying the design and adding text to the side/lid (negative space), then printing out inlining for the letters, works great). The box internal dimensions fit a stack of Estonian standard chocolates well. (for clarity, the design files have no lettering included)

Printing

Print time is overnight (~17…24h for box, depending). I used the standard 0.4mm nozzle with PLA Galaxy Black and 0.2 layer height.

Base

Box base wants supports on the slot where the lid is entered from plus two internal corners of the lid channel. Lid channel walls do not need supports.

Widest unsupported overhang is the wall polygon “ceiling”, might be worth to do a test print of just a single section of the wall, to ensure your printer+layer height works with it.

Box can be printed on the Prusa Mini (remove skirt).

Lid

No supports are needed for the lid

Ikea mounting hook/nut

Print two of both (IKEA hook + IKEA nut), if you want to mount the box to SKÅDIS. No supports are needed. Print upright, so the threaded screw faces up. Use layer height of 0.1mm for best results (threading wants some detail and polygon overhang/support loft works better).
