These transmissions are intended for use with “Thumper” and “Morrigan”  1:8 scale models.

Thumper - https://www.printables.com/model/323433-thumper-18-scale-rc-cj7-rock-crawler-by-blackcrow

Morrigan- https://www.printables.com/model/492423-morrigan-rc-car-remote-control-rock-bouncer-crawle

______________________________________________________________________________________________________________

 You have options!

I have four tested 3D printed gear builds below. Metal gear transmissions are also available for stronger longer lasting builds.

________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

 A)  Rock Crawler build - (A) This build is only for rock crawlers. It is light, low geared and easy to control. It uses a D3530 1,100KV motor with a 30amp ESC or a D3542 1,000kv motor with a 60Amp ESC. This setup has a 32:1 gear ratio at the tires. Not much motor back spin on his model. The down side is speed. The speed is good enough for walk behind trail rock crawling. Not a basher. Reducing acceleration and braking in transmitter is recommended.

Note: The D3542 1,000kv motor requires a 60Amp ESC. On the Thumper model space is limited between the radiator and motor. The Alomejor pictured fits on it's side with fan facing radiator. The aviation motor comes with 3.5mm banana connectors. Waterproof 60Amp 1:10 scale Car ESCs come with 4mm  banana connectors. Converting the connectors will be necessary.  It is strongly recommended that you use an Orange “FLASH HOBBY” BRAND  D3530 or D3542 three screw motor. The other motors do not benefit from a center shaft causing resulting in possible vibrations.

New: (G) 540 option- (Not compatible with Morrigan) For the serious crawlers that say brushless motors can't compete with brushes, new motor plates have been added to include the use of 540 motors. Do NOT choose this option unless you have crawling experience. Brushed motors require more maintenance.

Replace A or B: Bearing plate, Front cover, Motor plate and motor gear with G Bearing plate, Front cover, Motor plate and motor gear. (You have the option of using a 5mm flange with 3.175 to 5mm shaft sleeve or a 14 tooth pinion gear To attach the motor gear to 540 motor.)

Thumper Model: The 540 motor setup is longer and takes up space previously used by the ESC. You will have to remove the ESC mount and relocate the ESC to fender. The 550 is too long unless you remove the radiator. (currently looking into options)

        B)  Rock Crawler/Basher build  (B)  (Use the 1,450 video for both 1,000kv and 1450kv)

This build uses (Fast) D3542 1450kv or (slower but still much faster than A transmission)D3542 1000kv motor. These builds are more of a basher than a climber yet you can still crawl with them. The Motor/Transmission is easy to build and swap out. Options are nice and if you are short on rocks to climb, this setup is more fun. Reducing acceleration and braking in your transmitter is a must.  The Rock Crawler Build is better crawler and the Basher build is a much better Basher. Might be best build for snow and mud.

Note: The D3542 1,000kv motor requires a 60Amp ESC. Space is limited between the radiator and motor. The Alomejor pictured fits on it's side with fan facing radiator. The aviation motor comes with 3.5mm banana connectors. Waterproof 60Amp 1:10 scale Car ESCs come with 4mm  banana connectors. Converting the connectors will be necessary.

It is strongly recommended that you use an Orange “FLASH HOBBY” BRAND D3542 three screw ORANGE MOTOR  Jan 16 2023

        C)  Basher Build - (C) This build uses a 4250hobbyhh motor and 80amp ESC. This build is worthless as a crawler. Too much motor back spin. It is fast and powerful. …It takes a bit of skill to keep the rubber side down. I came up with this setup to break the model and show weak spots. To my surprise the model held up. I broke two front spindles but only after running into the brick flowerbed at 70% speed. No damage to metal parts. just print and replace. This build shows obvious power increase when running two parallel batteries instead of just one. Summery: The chassis was designed to be a slightly top heavy rock crawler not an extremely top heavy race car yet the basher setup is still lots of fun! … THIS BUILD REQUIRES THE “Hobbyhh 4250 800kv"       Notify me if you have another brand 4250 800kv motor that I can readily purchase and I will adapt to it. Jan-16-2023

---------SO, You did NOT get the ORANGE FLASH HOBBY MOTOR---------

3530 and 3542 Motors- The Orange Flash Hobby motors are the easiest to work with and virtually eliminate vibrations not only in my models but in other's models. I know that some people are going to get other motors. I like options so here you go. First you will need to cut the shaft off the motor. It gets in the way. Adapters will be added to the screw pattern end. With the new options you will need the “DBearingPlate” and a 10x15x4 bearing. See chart below for Motor gear sets.

Printed Parts:

Three screws motors: (Not orange Flash Hobby)

Motor- Turbo EVO:

    AA    (DBearingPlate,  FAA05GearMotor1, FAA005GearMotor2) M3 x 8mm

    BB    (DBearingPlate,  FBB05GearMotor1, FBB005GearMotor2) M3 x 8mm

Four screw motors:

Motor-  Hobbyh, HobbyStar, KingVal,

Before you build:

  1. )  5mm rod. The videos show stainless steel rods. 5mm Brass rods are easier to work with and is still plenty strong. If the rod does not fit in the bearings first make sure that the ends of the rod are not damaged. Second if needed reducing the diameter of the rod is actually very easy. Place the rod in a SMALL drill and spin the rod in a fold of 100 grit sand paper. Be very carful with powerful drills as they can catch your fingers in the sand paper and possibly injure you. Never do this with a lathe. Lathes can kill you!

Ratios: (Ratios matter! In the end the question is how many millimeters forward do you move per revolution of the motor. The things that affect the final ratios are Transmissions, AR44 axle gear ratios and the diameter of the tire. The end number represents millimeters the vehicle moves forward per revolution of the motor)

Transmission Ratios:

    A transmission = 7.5 : 1          B transmission = 5:1      C transmission = 1.8 : 1

AR44 Axle Gears:

    24T 8T  3:1,  27T 8T   3.375 : 1,  30T 8T  3.75 : 1,   33T 8T   4.125 : 1

Tires distance per revaluation:  (diameter - Circumference)

  Thumper 120mm = 377mm

  Morrigan 120mm = 377mm,  130mm = 408mm,  137mm =430mm

Update: Feb/7/2023 Four belt -Changed tool- Rod measurement was 114mm now 113mm

Update: Feb/12/2023 Notched MainCase crossmember for optional wire pass through

Update: April/11/2023 Fixed BB03 gear ( had 36 teeth- Should have had 33 teeth)

Update: May/5/2023 Replaced AA05MotorGear and BB05MotorGear. The new gear dose not require screws. The old gear will be moved to the retired parts on June 6th.

Update: June/8/2023 While testing transmission abusively in the Morrigan I found that the belts would occasionally slip. To fix this I tighten the belts by adding a tooth to the gears in each of the belt sets except the belt on the motor. (The motor belt is a higher speed lesser torque belt.) ( 29T is now actually 30T and 18T is actually 19T) Editing videos to reflect this  would be extensive. The old gears have been moved to retied parts page.

Update: July/3/2023 Added 540 motor options. ( basic parts available - work in progress). For now watch the motor gear and motor mount parts of 4250 800kv video.

Update: Aug/11/2023 The hole through the center of the gears has been enlarged to prevent shaft from rubbing gear.

Update: Sept/26/2023 C05FrontCover - Increased motor clearance and added optional Morrigan version.

Update: Dec/26/2023 Added experimental “square tooth” gears to the bottom of the page. Square is limited to a 0.4mm print radius. Gears should grip better even when loose. The trade off is thinner teeth. Heats up slower but less to heat up. Experimental

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Prusa and Bambu printers usually print this model without any problems. Other printers might need to be dialed in. I picked this video because it explains all of the horizontal expansion settings. The important setting is horizontal hole expansion. In most cases you will need to set to -0.1 to -0.3
