Description

Note: this antenna has not been tested or optimized. The design is a WIP.

None of the photos included are actually from this design as I haven't built it yet. However, the photos should be close enough to give you an idea of how things go together.

This is a remix of the Biquad Yagi Antenna by OPK on thingiverse and was heavily influenced by Andrew McNeil, especially his video on this long rage biquad yagi. Another interesting (and even more powerful) design is this one with double biquads, but it's too large to fit in a 15 cm cube.

Changes from OPK's Design:

  • Fixed element distances (19 mm to reflector and 17 mm between elements, it's flipped in OPK's design)
  • Changed tolerances to 0.2 mm from 0.5 mm for less wiggle room when putting elements onto the guide
  • Changed from 5 element to 9 element design for more directivity
  • Made the SMA hole in the reflector bigger

 

Additional materials needed for construction:

  • A little under 4 feet of 14 gauge copper wire
    • You should be able to get it for less than $1 per foot at a local hardware store by buying electrical cable and stripping it
  • Crimped SMA male connector
    • Recommendation: rg402 coax. However, it hardly matters due to the extremely short coax length
  • Soldering iron + solder
  • Optional: non-conductive (probably nylon) screws to fasten the guides to the reflector
    • You can also glue it or something
  • Copper sheet, copper tape, or aluminum foil to cover the reflector with
  • Glue

Quick note: even though the coax is not soldered to the driven element in the photo, you should solder
