Description

Here is Yet Another Gear Bearing inspired by Emmett Lalish's https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:53451

This adds a hand friendly profile for the ring gear, bevel cuts on the gears to avoid concentrating stress and wear at the points of the herringbones, axle holes in the planets, a pressure angle of 22 degrees for smoother motion, and some artistic text on the outer surface.

This is more of an art piece than a useful bearing, but it spins pretty well.

Most critical thing you may need to adjust is the "tol" setting in the Customizer. That controls the spacing between the parts when you print it. The default settings were adjusted for printing in PetG which gives a very nice finish.

Rendering in OpenScad takes about 6:30 on my laptop. Creating the .stl or .amf files is also pretty slow.

You will need to edit the .scad code if you want to change the text.

Print Settings

Printer Brand: Prusa

Printer: i3 MK3 MMU 2

Rafts: No

Supports: No

Resolution: 0.2 or 0.3 mm layers

Infill: 20%

Filament: generic PLA or PetG tested any
Notes:

Use 4+ perimeters. Rectilinear infill at 20%. Had good success printing at 0.2 and 0.3 mm layer height in both PLA and PetG.

Post-Printing

Gently rock the planet gears until they are free. If you apply too much force the gears may skip a tooth and will be difficult to re-align exactly.

How I Designed This

This is the result of many repetitions of design and print using different sizes, tooth counts, and gear profiles. All done with OpenScad. Sources included so you can tinker too.
