Description
This is a simple hanger for mounting an ambrotype or tintype to a wall. The model itself is fully parametric so you can easily adapt it to any size using the included FCStd file, but I've provided a variety of pre-sized STL files as well.
To use this, first pick your size. The STLs come in a top and a bottom half, and they're named according to the pattern (tin|ambro)_width_design_(top|bottom).stl. For instance, the file ambro_120_chevron_bottom is the bottom half of the chevron design, 120mm wide and sized to fit an ambrotype (glass plate).
Each STL file includes a pair of holes that should snugly fit a ¼" dowel (or a 6mm dowel with a little looser fit). You can accommodate any size plate by cutting a length of dowel to the appropriate size. ¼" dowel is thin enough that you can easily cut it with a hand saw or even snap it into parts. The fit doesn't need to be exact, just close enough to get a centimeter or so of the dowel into the holes on both sides.
To assemble just put a bit of super glue or epoxy into the holes or on the ends of the dowels, then insert the dowels into the top and bottom. You can slide a plate into the slot to serve as a sizing aid, just leave a millimeter or two of extra space so it will be easy to insert and remove the plates once the adhesive dries. Then you can hang the plate on a nail head using the sawtooth hanger built in to the top half of the hanger.
