Gridfinity adapter for Ikea Samla box 11l

I love the gridfinity system started by Zack Freedman and the design idea of easy accessibility and of displaying the stuff that is stored, rather than store it away. But I felt that until now an easy way of transporting more than a few boxes at a time was lacking.

Ikea Samla boxes seemed a perfect fit. They are transparent, thus keeping the possibility to easily see what's inside, stackable and easily transportable.

Inside a 11l Samla box (39x28x14 cm) fits a 5x7 grid and you can stack 5 3U high divider bins. Lots of easily transportable storage for projects.

What do you need to print

• You need to print 2x the SamlaModularBaseplateAdapter_ 11l.stl
• If you have the possibility print 1x the 5x7 modular baseplate (requires at least a 300x250mm print bed)
• Or you can print 2x the 3x5 modular paseplate and 1x the 1x5 modular baseplate
• If you have only a really small print bed you can also use any combination of my modular baseplates (https://www.printables.com/model/360046-gridfinity-modular-baseplates) that fit on our printer and screw them together to a 5x7 grid.

Assembly

• Use 8 m3x12 button head cap screws (BHCS) and 8 m3 hex nuts to attach the two adapters to the 5x7 modular baseplate (4 screws per adapter are enough, but you can use more if you want)
• If you use the two 3x5 and one 1x5 baselates attach them together using 6 m3x8 screws (BHCS) and 6 m3 hex nuts.
• Screw in m3x6 ferromagnetic flat head coutersunk screws (FHCS) into the tapered holes in the 5x7 baseplate, so bins with magnets will hold perfectly on the baseplate. Note that by using magnets on the bins and ferromagnetic screws on the baseplates you don't need to think about the polarity of the magnets in the bins. This step is optional.
• Place the assembly in the Ikea Samla box.
• You also have the possibility to glue the assembly to the Ikea Samla box. You can do this via superglue if you want to attach it permanently or via hotglue if you want to remove the baseplates easily.
