Description
This is a simple print to upgrade some of the cheap MK8 upgrade extruders like those often installed on Creality Ender3, CR-10 & etc.
Backstory… I purchased a Bondtech BMG clone to upgrade the extruder as it skipped a little on the PETG I've been feeding it lately. But unfortunately, I apparently hadn't remembered that the extruder gear is bonded onto the motor's drive shaft. This meant I couldn't install the BMG clone for now (yes, I tried using a pulley remover, but wouldn't come off. It's on there good!). So until I havea new motor, or 5, I'll stick with this as is definately an improvement already!
Explanation… This is designed to go inside the spring and be pushed by the M3x10mm screw (bottom right of photo). I suggest, if your extruder has a screw in the other end of the spring (lever end, top right of image), that you replace it with a shorter one (PC 2.5in HDD/SSD screws work a treat as they're M3, I had (lots of) spares knocking about (3.5in HDD screws are 3/16in, not M3, FYI))!
This is (probably) the same one I have installed (link to an AliExpress listing)… https://tinyurl.com/2z7jtqa9
Suggest doing a before and after extrusion test. Mine went from needing an extrusion multiplier of 1.3x to 1.1x (further improvements will come).
Print settings… Nothing special required. Suggest printing in PETG as it'll resist the heat and wear a bit better (particularly if in an enclosure). PLA/PLA+ probably fine for most used cases!
