Description
This is a turntable-style filament spool holder that uses 608 bearings to minimize the drag on the filament.
I was having issues with under extrusion on my Sovol SV05 printer because the extruder has particularly low extrusion torque compared to other printers. It simply could not handle the filament passing through 2ft of PTFE tubing.
In addition, the filament can easily get wrapped around the ends of the gantry and cause a print failure if I did not use a PTFE tube.
My solution is to turn the spool on its side to avoid issues with cardboard tubes, ad a bearing to avoid the friction of the spool sliding on a peg, and place the whole thing in a place that makes it easily accessible to filament change out and also difficult to tangle up in the gantry. I have noticed that this seems to also work similarly to a buffer allowing the filament to return back into the holder when the extruder makes quick movements away from and then back towards the spool holder.
Required Hardware:
2x M5 screws and T-nuts for mounting it to the 2020 extrusion.
8x M3 x 8 screws for attaching the handle and mount.
1-2x 608 skateboard bearings. you only need 1 if you don't use the lid.
