Bantam Desktop CNC airblast

Long story short, there was no way I was going to pay 200$ for an air-blast for my little mill; see official bantam tools link for details: https://store.bantamtools.com/products/bantam-tools-desktop-cnc-air-blaster-accessory . I don't even have a compressor that I could run it off...

Realistically due to the high rpm of the spindle, except for some boring operations I've run, the chips are mostly cleared by the air coming off of the tooling itself. I don't even really have to use this air-blast most of the time. It is nice however, to be able to clear out “deep” tight bores, or blow off the part every once in a while.

I came up with this after looking at the bantam design and looking at what McMaster had. I designed this model to use the following components from McMaster:

The air in the air-blast is provided by good old canned air, also know as air duster. You should be able to find this most places that sell electronics.

The nut that collapses to “crimp” the flexible hose into place can be a bit finicky to print and install, i would recommend printing at least 2 minimum. It is threaded for 7/16-14, sorry for the metric folks who want to clean up the threads with tap/die they probably don't have on hand.

***I designed the side entry hose version after I mounted the top entry and noticed the hose butts up against the belt tensioner. The hose is very soft, so I'm not worried about it inducing extra stress on the spindle belt, but some people might want the hose to come out the side like the original bantam design.

I have not actually tested the side entry hose option yet, but in theory it should work because i just modified the original top entry file.

The hose is routed with the thick black cabling to the rear of the spindle assembly and then exits the enclosure through a custom vent replacement. I will link to that below when it is published. Remember to include enough hose so that the gantry and spindle can move through their full travel without getting bound up.

In the end, this only ends up costing about 40$ in parts and plastic. I'd say it is worth it.
