Hidden Mickey with OpenSCAD source and comments

This is a simple Hidden Mickey design to use as a decoration, or a starting point for another project.

Background

My young children use a “red/green” lamp in their room to help them know when it's sleep time, and we've had fun putting some seasonal decorations inside to cast silhouettes. Recently they've been very excited about Mickey Mouse and love reading their Disney Block Book that's full of Hidden Mickeys. I think it will be fun to sneak this in when they're at daycare one day.

Printing instructions

• Print the .stl file either as-oriented (border up) or upside down, depending on which side you want to look nicer.
• Usually the side on the build plate is a bit smoother and more presentable. If printing upside down, the bridge flow over the border shouldn't cause any aesthetic issues.

OpenSCAD source code

I've included the full source code for this model, with more comments than usual. It's a fun way to wade into OpenSCAD if you've never tried it, and it's very easy to adjust parameters like the overall size or border dimensions.

Try adding a loop to hang it, or make it into a coaster! (Update: I’m going to make a coaster… unless you remix it first! Second update: I made two coasters—circle themed and silly spiral)
