How to use?

Find the right size for your toilet paper rolls first. If you are uncertain just use the bigger one, it can be used for both sizes.

There are 2 sizes. One for max 120 mm outer diameter toilet paper rolls and one for max 110 mm diameter toilet paper rolls. Max height for both is 100 mm.

Print “BASE”, “BODY” and “NOZZLE” in PETG or PLA.

Print “TPU INLAY” in TPU or similar flexible material. (If you don't have a flexible material at hand, you can print it in a hard plastic, but I tested it, and it didn't work as well)

No support needed except for the latch on the “BASE” part. Print “BODY” upside down to avoid using supports.

Assemble the housing by first attaching the “NOZZLE” to the “BODY”. You can use glue or good double-sided tape. Use the 4 holes to align the “NOZZLE” properly. You can put a pen through the holes to aid in this process.

Now attach the “TPU INLAY” with the bottom side to the inside of the “BODY”. Orientation for this doesn't matter.

Use double sided tape to attach the “BASE” to wherever your desired location for the toilet paper dispenser is going to be. Unfortunately, this step is mandatory due to high upwards force when using with one hand. For a better experience rotate the base so that the latch is facing you, using the toilet paper dispenser from the opposite side may cause the “BODY” part to come loose.

Remove the cardboard toilet paper tube on the inside of your toilet paper roll. Press with fingernail or something flat between cardboard and tissues. Cut with scissors from both sides to the centre. separate cardboard from tissues.

Funnel the INNER end of the roll through the “TPU INLAY” and out though the nozzle.

Finally slide the “BODY”, “TPU INLAY” and “NOZZLE” part including toilet paper roll onto the “BASE” part and done. 👏

Why should you use this Model?

  1. Cheaper: Including the cost of the plastic you can safe around 30-50 € per year per person (Calculated by using 3 € material cost; 0,011€ for one piece of normal tissue; 0,0014€ for one piece of toilet paper; using 10 pieces per day)
  2. Uses less material per use
  3. Only on product needed for multiple purposes
  4. Can be used with one hand
  5. Can be used horizontally and vertically
  6. Fits multiple sized toilet paper rolls
  7. Can be customized to your needs like all 3D-Prints.

How I designed this?

I printed and compared the following already available models:

Some of them are really nice designs but I didn't find one which satisfied all my needs.

Either they were:

  1. Too complicated to print with lots of different variants of the same part
  2. Did use too much material
  3. Had to be used with two hands
  4. Didn't fit my toilet paper rolls
  5. Had to be wall mounted
  6. Torn each piece in half

After taking inspiration from all of them I took the time and designed my own one.

Things to consider and future plans?

Although I'm am glad how this design turned out, I see a lot of potential for improvement on this model.

  1. Make it so toilet paper dispenser can be used from all sides
  2. Design a smaller latch to cut down on support material
  3. Rotating mechanism to connect base and body instead of slide mechanism for better use in tight spaces
  4. Improve TPU Inlay by changing stiffness and number of segments
  5. Improve Nozzle by changing it's height or by adding a round lip at the top to decrease the number of torn pieces (about one in 20 right now)
  6. Improve vertical use
  7. Find a solution where the base doesn't need to be stuck to the ground

Feel free to use my design and remix it to your liking!  👍
