Description

After seeing several images of the poop chute getting backed up (like this one), I decided that using a bucket is too risky for long multicolor prints. Instead, I created a simple slide that drops the purged filament into a box behind my table. If I'm not diligent about emptying that, I'll have a mess, but at least the print will keep going!

Key Features

  • Uses Gridfinty sized magnets - 6x2mm (Amazon link)
  • Only 1mm thick slide! You're going to waste enough plastic soon enough.
  • Both pressure fit and loose tolerance variants of the mount are available
  • Variable slide lengths from 250mm, all the way down to 50mm.

Instructions

First, measure out how long you need your slide to be from the base of the poop chute down to the end of your table. If the slide will be resting on the table, you can use the 4 magnet variant of the base. If the slide will need to hover in the air, there is an 8 magnet variant to help keep this giant fulcrum attached.

The magnets are 6x2mm (Amazon link). The holes are intentionally tight so that you can pressure fit them in with some pliers. But if you'd prefer to glue them in, there is a looser variant of the mount. The little cutouts next to the inserts are so you can wedge a screwdriver in to reclaim your magnets.

Two M3 6mm screws are all you need to attach the slide to the mount. You can use longer screws and attach nuts if you want, but the holes are intentionally tight enough that you shouldn't need them to keep the slide held in perfect position.

Note: If you need longer than 250mm, you can print multiple slides - they're thin enough that they'll flex and you can pressure fit them together.
