Summary

The Necromancer's Bells, inspired by Garth Nix's Old Kingdom series.

The bells were designed by concept artist Josh Wong as part of a project that reimagined people, places, and objects from the first book in Garth Nix's Old Kingdom series, Sabriel.

You can see the rest of Josh's illustrations on his portfolio page.

Prop fabrication and printing were done by Jeanette Denham of Xmachina Cosplay.

3D design was done by Eric Lange.

  • The Necromancer's Bells print with minimum support, only a little under the actual bell itself.
  • Some support removal is necessary for bell 6 between the top surface and the claws.
  • Bell 7 is slightly over 10 inches (254 mm) tall.
  • All bells can be scaled down slightly without losing too much detail.

If you make these, feel free to share pictures and let us know at @xmachniacosplay, @joshwongart, and @30secfantasy!

EDIT: Some bells had issues with missing material between the handle and the bell, this has been adjusted for bells 3, 4, and 5.

EDIT (8/22/2018): Bell 7-4 had an error that resulted in a bunch of broken surfaces. This has been fixed in Bell 7-5.

Summary

So i did 2 things.

First, I broke the files into bells and handle to print separate materials for each.

You may have to sand the handles a bit to epoxy/ glue them together.

the second thing was i made a stand. Its not small and it has rests the bells sit on. bell #4 stand is a bit tight.

Post-Printing

I did have to sand #4 bell's stand a bit to get it not pop in place as much.

I used a file to rough up the bell and some sand paper on the mating bells and handles prior to epoxying them, together with 5 minute clear epoxy.

I just superglued the connectors in place for the stand. the stand did snap together a bit.
