Kidney Shell for Odds and Ends

This is a simple kidney shell shaped tray model for storing odds and ends.

Printing

Prints without supports or any sophisticated settings. All overhangs are well below 45°, hence no issues with part cooling are expected.

I just reduced the layer hight in the region 2-4mm using the dynamic layer hight feature in Prusa Slicer. This has reduced the visible steps inside and facilitated the finishing process.

Finishing

To mimic the stainless steel look of original kidney shells used in hospitals, I sanded and smoothed over the model before I applied the chome lack.

Note to my future-me: don't use the glossy clear coat, as it diminishes the metallic look of the chrome lack; but if you use this coating despite this warning, apply it scarcely.

However, it prints so easily and smoothly that using a silk filament likely leads to a similar nice finish without postprocessing.
