Description
This is a beefed up Y-axis motor mount for the i3 MK3S with built-in end stop.
The advantage of this design is that the linear bearings won't hit the backplate of the frame anymore to mark the back end of the Y axis. Instead, the belt holder under the Y carriage will hit the "STOP" part of the Y motor mount which puts less stress on the bearings.
Since version 2, the Y motor is held 1mm off the back of the frame to reduce noise.
Please post a Make of this print if you liked it and it was useful to you. Thank you!
2023-03-31: MAJOR UPDATE!
I have added a new version (v2) of the mount. This one keeps the Y motor 1mm off the frame. For me, this reduces the whining noise of the motor significantly. I ensured that the end stop positions are the same distance to the back of the frame compared to v1. Once again, I have included a version which puts the end stop another 1mm back towards the frame for people having issues with the calibration of the printer.
I was able to use all the same mounting hardware as with v1.
The old version can still be found in the v1 folder.
2022-03-30: IMPORTANT - Some people still encounter Y-axis length calibration issues using this mount. If you do, please read this comment and all the answers by Shushuda. This might help resolve your issues.
2022-01-24: Upon request I added a .step and an .stl of a version in which I shaved off 1mm of the end stop (the part labeled “STOP” that the Y-carriage's belt tensioner hits). This is for people having Y-axis calibration issues with the normal version.
1x M3 x 10 (reuse from stock)
2x M3 x 25
1x M3 x 10 (reuse from stock, upper hole)
1x M3 x 12 or 14 (lower hole)
2x M3 lock nuts (reuse from stock)
Recommended material: PETG or ABS.
Print with 3 perimeters and at least 30% gyroid infill.
Please note: If you end up with your pulley situated all the way to the left and the belt still rubs on the rim of the pulley, you can slice a 1mm part of the bottom of the holder to create a spacer / shim to put between the motor and the rest of the mount. (It's included this way in the 3mf file). Thanks to Ulrich Hornstone ( https://www.prusaprinters.org/de/social/58726-ulrich-hornstone ) for this idea.
This mod also works well with KalleKnall's Y axis linear rails upgrade: https://www.prusaprinters.org/de/prints/5620
This design is based on teookie's design for the MK3 ( https://www.prusaprinters.org/de/prints/1063-prusa-i3-mk3-y-axis-motor-mount )
Compared to the MK3 design the "STOP" plate on the top is located 1.5mm further back to avoid calibration issues on the MK3S. There also is a version available where the "stop" part is located another 1mm further to the back (so a total of 2.5mm compared to the MK3 version).
