Description
A pioneer of American modernism, George Nelson designed a multitude of clocks for the Howard Miller company in the late 1940s. His modern designs were intended for the average home but the high brow designs were often found in commercial settings and in architectural works building the movement known as mid century modern.
The blue block clock is a iconic design. With 3d printing you can print this piece in any color combination your heart desires.
Inspired by this design I modeled a similar block style clock with dovetail joints for the blocks and in the center round section. I printed the blocks at 5% infill for weight savings and at 99% of original size for fit. The center round piece I printed at 20-25% for rigidity. Using insta-set CV glue it is easy to assemble the clock and finally I glued on the backing after the movement was installed. The backing covers all the dovetail joints and allows access to change the battery and hang the clock on a nail with the provided hole.
I used this movement with great success in a few different 3D prints. The second hand has a nice sweeping motion. (approx $8)
Based on feedback I've added a test print file of the Dove Tail section of the block. You can print this to test fit the blocks to the center piece before committing to printing 12 blocks. Try scaling at 99 or 98 percent. CV glue will ultimately be in there to hold the piece.
