Description

After I had completed optimizing my generic lockable ball joint ecosystem, I figured I should do an practical application for it to show how useful it can be. So I made this tripod, which follows a design principle that I had already published.

The generic lockable ball joint, with all it's other components, can be found here:
https://www.printables.com/model/370429-generic-lockable-ball-joint

Although this tripod is similar to my older design, it is actually a design from scratch. The ball joint pan was too big to allow for a remix of the existing tripod plate.

The legs of the tripod are not new, I have just uploaded to this publication also for your convenience.

If you should be specifically interested in the GoPro mount that is shown together with the tripod in the picture, you can find it here:

Printing

Both the tripod plate an the legs are very easy to print. I recommend PETG as material, as it is more tolerant to the screws being forced in (see assembly). No supports are needed for printing. I recommend 3 to 4 perimeters to make the parts and the screw holes strong. I found 25% of infill to be sufficient.

Assembly

All you need to assemble this tripod is:

  • 1x Tripod plate (from this publication)
  • 3x Tripod leg (from this publication)
  • 3x Screw M3x10 (with a bit of luck you have some leftovers from your printer assembly)

The screws can and shall be forced into the tripod plate. Tighten the screws until the legs of the tripod can be moved with a bit of force, but are not loose any more. The design is made to keep the screws from moving when the legs of the tripod are moved. It should not be necessary to adjust them, unless you use this part extensively.

Fitting parts to attach something to the tripod, like union nuts or the ball with threaded rod can be found in the generic ball joint publication.

Alternative parts

If you should like it ultra tiny, you may also use the shorter legs from this old publication.

Please like it if you like it

Your satisfaction is my reward, please give me a like or publish a photo of your print if you like this design.
