I remixed AlexWYYC's belt tensioner so that you can use the stock bolts for mounting it. I've also included ojmalik's modified knob to make this thing complete.
Additional parts required
- 1 M3x20mm bolt
- 1 M3 nut
- 1 small cable tie
Installation
It's simpler to start this process with no filament running through the hotend.
- Remove the cover plate at back of extruder assembly with letter E stamped on it
- Reroute wires on fan side side so that they run under the bottom smooth rod
- Use a cable tie as shown in photo to ensure they don't rub on the smooth rod
- The plug of your extruder stepper should also be at the bottom
- Unfurl wire that runs to the stepper from inside where we removed the cover plate..
- Rotate the extruder stepper 90 degrees so that the connector is now facing downwards
- Reinstall the cover plate marked with letter E
- Undo the 2 bolts at the back that hold the belt for moving the extruder side to side
- Cut the cable ties holding belt onto bolts
- Remove the steel spring
- Install the knob onto the belt tensioner body (leave bolt loose so you can turn knob)
- Push belt into the stationary side
- Feed belt into knob side paying attention that it doesn't try to loop in again
- Turn knob until belt tight
- Tighten knob bolt so it locks into place properly
