Description

These two pieces secure your Raspberry Pi 3B+ (may work for other models) to the frame of your Anet A8 3D printer.

Useful for anybody using OctoPrint (more info here: https://octoprint.org/)

Notes:

DO NOT TURN ON SUPPORTS IN YOUR SLICER: I have already integrated support material in the model (for this reason I recommend you stick 0.3 mm layer height and 0.4 mm line width)

Support clean-up

* You can use a cutter and some tweezers to remove residue material from the four slots

Extra Hardware

  • Apart from the Raspberry and its cables and SD card, you'll need 4x M3 nuts and bolts:

check the spare pieces from your Anet kit!

Installation on the frame

  • IMPORTANT: You have to remove the original Anet power supply in order to attach the Raspberry to the frame of the printer, as the mounting holes are normally covered by it
  • First install the bottom nut and bolt on each of the pieces, then carefully slide the RasPi in one piece and rotate the two pieces to lock the computer on both sides; finally fasten the top bolts with another pair of nuts

Suggestions

  • I advise you to check that everything works before inserting the RasPi into the holder as it might be inconvenient to change the Pi's SD card later on
  • Also make sure to handle the computer with care as it's pretty fragile (I am not responsible for any broken Raspberry Pi's)
  • When removing the power supply, make sure to stay safe and cut the power off before touching its metal cage!
  • You can route the USB cable from the Pi to the Anet's mainboard using the big holes at the base of the frame for a neat cable management

How I Designed This

A paper stencil for dimensions and Fusion 360 for the modeling (this is actually the fourth iteration, but I'm finally happy with the result)
