Description
This model was designed to hold gold dipped roses from I Hate Steven Singer. As my wife pointed out, there is not enough roses to fill my design but there is room for a dozen roses. This box doubles as a gift box for Valentine's Day or any occasion. I included a locked version as well because I am a fan of puzzles and escape rooms and like to add some pizazz to my gift giving. The roses when full should give you a heart display in the roses themselves based on some testing.
Models:
There is a lockable version which includes two heightened stems that protrude through the top and a small bar that extends through them. A small hole at one end for a small lock pad to secure it.
The regular version includes a top that fits loosely into the rose holders.
The tops were designed to be loose fitting to allow for easy removal and not annoy the receiver.
There is a plain version (no text) and a version that says “I Love You”. You can mix and match them for your needs as they are interchangeable as long as it is for the “locked” or “plain” version.
Printing Tips:
The base is rather thick because the roses are heavy and I didn't want it to tip with an uneven distribution of weight as we fill it up. However, I did print a 2mm version with no issues. You can drop it below the Z axis in your slicer if you'd like to save some plastic.
The same goes for the top. I printed a full size and a 1mm thick top for testing. Both worked great but the 1mm is a little flimsy and repetitive use may cause it to break. But for a one off I think the 1mm will work (the plain version). The text version will require some thickness due to the text.
You could also trim down the cylinders that hold the roses. However, I feel they are at a perfect height to prevent them from falling and for them to hold the shape of the heart. I printed several at different heights and think it is the appropriate height. If you want them shorter just stop printing after a certain layer height. Unfortunately, you cannot do this for the locked version.
The rod for the locked version needs to be printed vertically to avoid supports. Good bed adhesion will help keep it in place for the entire print. Mine had some wobble and the layer shifted some but it did not effect the function.
The lockable top has thin walls around the cutouts, make sure to allow your printer to print thin walls. Even if you don't, there is only a small gap and it still functions as designed.
If you enjoyed this model please leave a like and a make! I'd love to see the color combos and set up you decide to do! Happy Valentine's Day!
