Description

I designed this large decorated knob for a wardrobe. It features a sun-like decoration on its front. The design consists of three parts. Two of them are glued together and allow easy montage and maintenance.

How to Print the Knob

I prepared two example projects for PrusaSlicer. One is for PLA prints, and another for PETG. The main difference is the small support structure in the PETG print required for a good result. If you like to slice the models from scratch, please have a look at the table below:

Nozzle Size:Recommended 0.4mm
Working: 0.6mm and 0.8mm
Layer Height:Recommended 0.2mm
Use 0.1mm starting from 5mm height for part 702.
Filament Materials:PLA, PETG
Perimeters:Three perimeters
Prusa Slicer Profile:“0.2mm Quality”

Dimensions

The hole in the knob is designed for an M5 screw or a 5.5mm wood screw with a flat head.

Choose the Screw Direction

There are two similar parts:

  • LR2247-701-D64-H18 – Screw head in the knob.
  • LR2247-711-D64-H18 – Hex nut in the knob.

Part 701 is made to put the screw head in the knob. It will work with M5 screws and 5mm, 5.5mm or even 6mm wood screws with a flat head. Also, 4mm furniture screws work well with the hole's geometry.

On the other hand, part 711 is made to put an M5 hex nut into the knob. The hole has a hex profile in the middle to keep the nut from spinning freely.

Choose the Right Materials

While you can print this knob find using PLA, I recommend using PETG or even ASA if you expect rough usage.

To combine a beautiful appearance with tough functionality, print parts 701 or 711 and 703 using PETG or even ASA and only printing the front 702 with a good-looking PLA material.

Assembly and Montage

In the first step, you have to remove the extra layer that covers the screw hole in part 701 or 711. Use a 5mm, 5.5mm or 6mm wood or metal drill for this task.

Next, glue the threaded ring part 703 into the part 701. Use a strong glue, like epoxy glue or one that bonds well with the filament you used for the print.

Now, you can mount the knob to your drawer or door. Use the screw you selected to fasten the part 701 or 711 to the element.

After fastening the part, you can screw the front on top. You can use glue to lock the front permanently, but I recommend using something like candle wax to prevent the thread loosening by itself.

Photos

The photos of the real prints were printed using an Original Prusa i3 MK3S+, using 3DJake magic filament.
