Description
Printed on a Creality Ender 3 S1
0.4mm Nozzle
PLA Filament
Make sure to use spacebar and bottom row keys that fit your keyboard. I have marked the ones for a 6.25u spacebar and accompanying 1.25 and fn keys. This was specifically designed for the layout pictured below (7u spacebar)
These will only fit mx style switch stems. These will not work with stems like the Kailh Box Jades and similar style stems like many of the Akko switches. These might be a bit loose depending on the switch used such as Durock Sunflower T1s, but are still useable.
Flat keytops, no tilt, and no key bump on F and J keys.
~9.9mm tall and ~1.8mm thick
For each g-code I had about 10-15 keys for the sake of waste protection in case of failures.
Important Slicer Settings (Cura)
Layer Height 0.2 mm
Filament Change Layer 3 (you can find this in Cura under Extensions→Post Processsing→Modify G-Code→Add A Script)
You want to start off with the lettering folder. These are keycaps with outset legends in order to print just the letter and symbols on top of the keycaps. I printed these with neon green/red color filaments.
In your slicer you will rotate each keycap symbol side down and scale the z axis to 150% (This is to make sure that the height of the symbols are at least .4mm tall). Then move each key to a specified x and y on the print bed and take note of each one. I took the photos pictured below of the preview in Cura from layer 1 to help myself.Do not place any keycaps in the middle if you are using an abl sensor and calibrate from the center. Once those are noted make sure you have the Important Slicer Settings and generate the g-code.
Print these before you print the Keys folder. Make sure to remove skirts if you used them after the print.
Additonal Slicer Settings
Z-Hop 0.2 mm
These have inset legends so it will be the main color of the keycaps. I printed these in purple/black colored filaments. Make sure to match the same letter or symbol as the Lettering keys.
In your slicer you will rotate these symbol side down and place each key according to the specified x and y with the matching the symbols/letters. Make sure to add Z-Hop to avoid messing up lettering.
I printed these with 100% infill. Make sure to remove the Filament Change Script.
You will print the Lettering g-codes first in whatever color you want for the letters/symbols. Wait until the print passes layer 2. It should automatically stop and ask for a filament change if implemented into G-Code correctly. Simply pull out the filament, resume print, and quickly cancel the print. If the Filament Change script doesn't stop the print after 2 layers then manually do it yourself by cancelling print. You will be left with just the letters/symbols on the print bed. Make sure to remove any skirts if used after print is cancelled (Picture below for reference).
Then with the Lettering printed still on bed you will start the print for the Keys. Use colors that you want for your keys. Make sure that the first layer prints around the already printed lettering (Picture below for reference).
Once that print is done that's it! You can remove the print like normal and you should have keycaps with colored letters/symbols on top.
For the spacebars you don't need any special settings. Just make sure to print flat side down.
I have added a few blanks if you want to make your own designs.
