Description
I reassigned the media playback control keys on my keyboard for other shortcuts. These keycaps have the same design as the originals, but with new icons on them.
I printed the stems at 0.1mm layer height with a 0.25mm nozzle on a Prusa Mini. They're very detailed but they came out great. I used transparent PETG which is important for the strength and use as a lightpipe.
For the keycaps, I switched between black and transparent PETG. Still printing at 0.1mm layer height with a 0.25mm nozzle. The PrusaSlicer project is included if you want to take a look, but the first 0.6mm are black for the top of the key, then the next 0.6mm are transparent for the light to shine through, and the remaining part is black again to keep the light from shining through the sides. I also experimented with using a fully transparent cover and marking it black with a Sharpie Pro – this worked but some light still leaked through. I'd recommend changing filaments like I did for the best results.
I included a blank cover if you want to embed your own icon. Just make it 0.5mm deep and it will look like mine. I can also share the Fusion projects if you want to add your icons that way.
Assembly only requires a drop of superglue between the stem and the cover. Ensure they're orientated correctly – the bottom of the stem is the side with extra clearance.
You can use the iCUE software to reassign these media keys to any other shortcut that you want. I make the left one “Mute Mic” to align with the “Mute Speakers” button above. Then my next two are “Minimize Current Window” and “Show Desktop”. The last one is unused at the moment.
