Description

This is a magnetic mounted z-probe using a mechanical end-stop switch. 

I am rebuilding my old MakerLibre 1515 Mini Kossel and upgrading it along the way. I decided to go with the SeeMeCNC ball-joint effector arms and their molded platform. I ended up using the aluminum plate from 713Maker along with their E3D V6 threaded heatsink mount kit. Since the plastic and aluminum effector plates are the same dimensions, this should work on either.

The magnets I used are 3.2mm diameter x 6.4mm long and are press-fit if your printer is calibrated and accurate. The end-stop switch is the normal mechanical type. The magnet holders that mount to the effector plate have large enough screw holes to allow you to get everything aligned before tightening.

I went with this design as I wanted the X & Y z-probe offsets to be 0, which this does. The Z offset needs to be calculated for your particular setup. I printed the effector magnet tabs using 3DXTech 3DXMAX ASA for the heat resistance; the mechanical switch holder is printed with PLA.

Hole spacing is universal - I designed the mechanical switch holder originally to attach to the three stand-off screws that attach the hot-end mount to the effector plate, so if you are using steel screws you can skip the three magnet holders that attach to the bottom of the effector plate and just use the switch holder - see the last photo. The magnetic holding force is much stronger magnet - magnet versus magnet - steel, and I use stainless steel hardware, so I designed the three small magnet holders to provide a solid mount.
