Magnetic Yin & Yang Chopstick Holder Set

Made for the Chopstick Holder Competition 2023.

As I have previously made a Yin and Yang Catch All Tray, this was an obvious design to follow. I added a twist by making each half magnetic. Choose your balance!

Print 2 of each file for a full set. Choose two contrasting colours.

Assembly is super simple.

The parts take four 4 mm diameter by 2 mm thick neodymium magnet. They are simply added after printing* with a tiny drop of glue. Make sure you check alignment before gluing or your yin and yang might fight each other! Please be aware that even these tiny neodymium magnets can be dangerous for children if swallowed so leave out if you are at all concerned.

*I tried dropping the magnet in mid-print but it is too complicated to ensure correct alignment with these tiny magnets - they tend to flip over. It is much more successful to test that everything works properly before adding a tiny drop of glue over the top of the magnet.

Optionally, a small spot of glue on the centre circle helps keep it fixed. I used superglue for all.

I printed in PLA with a 0.4 mm nozzle at both 0.12 and 0.2 layer height - no noticeable difference in quality. Infill is fine 20% as these are carrying very little load. Each half takes about 1 hour to print and about 1.78 m of filament.
