Description

This thing spirals long distances like nobody's business and flies with ghost-like movement!  I have made a major update… a TWISTY update if you will ! 🌀 Please, check out the video above. Every throw is around 50 to 60 yards plus!

↪ UPDATED for Left Handed Flyers! ↩

* Print the stl with LEFTHAND in the title for left handed flyers!

Here's the Rundown:

The newest iteration is a two piece design. Now you can separate the pieces for an easy repair if either takes on any damage during flight!

The first piece is the Weighted Ring. There is a 0.5mm gap around the outer edge. This gap is just enough room to slide the second piece into.

(weighted ring pictured in blue)

The second piece is the Twisty Wing. This has to be ultra thin, and for that reason is printed in vase mode or “spiralize outer contour” under special modes if you're using Cura slicer.

Print Settings:

Weighted Ring = Print the weighted ring with 0.2mm - 0.25mm layers, 3 walls, and 5% infill.

Twisty Wing = This needs to be printed in vase mode with a 0.4mm line thickness, 0.2mm - 0.25mm layers, and zero bottom layers ( this is necessary to prevent the bottom from being solid, like a cup would be )

🌀 Pro Tip:

@Hallender_661744 made a great suggestion; Try scaling the wing portion up by about 0.5% if your printer tolerances are high.

Assembly:

On a flat surface, carefully guide the Twisty Wing onto the Weighted Ring.

Working around the edge, slide the wing down by pinching with both hands and pressing down into the table.

Continue pressing the wing into the gap all the way around and check to see that it is level once inserted.

Tip:

It may help to clean the gap with a razor blade. Please, be extremely careful! If you have major issues with retraction, or your filament is creating blobs around your z-seam, you can simply snug the wing to the edge of the weighted ring instead of inside the gap. It will still fly!

Flying:

Throwing the Hollow Flying Ring doesn't take much practice! Hold it like you would a soda can and throw it like a football with the weighted ring facing away from you. See the example above. Try adding a slight spin by flicking your wrist when you release the ring. You can also throw it with the wind for extremely long flights!

Please be sure to post your Makes and click the Heart button!

Happy flying!

Love, Grandpa
