Description

This is an enclosure for an Nextion 3.5" Serial Display, with a Keystone Jack and a switch on the back (I included a version without the switch also). I'm using this with JKSniper's "V2 Electronics for Smart 3D Printer Enclosure" (details here: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2862044). I'm really happy with the way the software and hardware works for the V2 Enclosure controller, and I wanted to extend the screen from the controller, so I made this thing. I have so far tested it with a 12' CAT5E patch cable to extend the screen and it worked fine (12' was the longest patch cable I had on hand to test with).

This will require:

4xM3 x 8mm to 12mm flat head screws

1x Cat5E keystone jack

1x switch (optional) I used one similar to the smaller switch in amazon item B07D7NCLKF

I'm still building my enclosure control setup, so I plan to have it apart but when I'm done messing with it, I'm gonna add a couple drops of superglue to the seam between the front and back, but even without glue it feels pretty solid and it's probably not needed. The Wago's are gonna be replaced with soldered joints when everything is completed.

Note that if using the same setup with the V2 Electronics board, I recommend using the version without the switch, since shutting power to the screen causes it to loose synch with the arduino, and it won't communicate until the power is reset to the arduino. The screen draws very little power anyway, so there is no point to shutting it off (I think the spec was around 0.625W or so). Since I printed the version with the switch however, I plan to use one of the available pairs on the CAT5E to control an opto-isolated relay that will control power to the (remote) V2 Electronics board. That way I can control power for the V2 Electronics, from the switch on the screen housing.

Thanks to heinandre for posting the "Nextion Desktop Dashboard Case" which I grabbed dimensions for the screen standoffs and screen opening from (which fit the screen perfectly), and to MWU who posted the "RJ45 Keystone Receiver", which I used for the Keystone receiver on this model.

I posted a bit about the design of this and my impressions of the V2 Electronics on my blog here: http://www.mystoopidstuff.com/blog/jktechs-smart-3d-printer-enclosure-electronics-v2

I will keep updating on the blog as I finish up the electronics compartment in my enclosure.

If you post one please post a make, and if you have questions post in the comments. STEP file included for easy remixing. If you post a remix, please add the required attributions for the remix sources listed above.

Thanks for looking, if you like this thing, please like it or download it (which helps to get me closer to my first free spool of Prusament).  Or you can check out my site, to see what other projects are in the works.
