Changelog:
My usual “organization” system for sanding discs was pretty straightforward: dump them all into a bag or drawer and hope that they stay grouped by grit. Dear reader, this system was bad.
I intended to make a little organizer for sanding discs out of wood, but it's been cold and rainy out. The printer doesn't care too much about the inclement weather outside (unlike my table saw which I use in the backyard), so I decided to make a 3D printable organizer instead.
There's a lot of sanding disc organizers out there, and there may already be modular ones! This may be just another one… or maybe it's special! I'll leave that up to you to decide.
ANYWAYS - I designed this part to be “infinitely” stackable. It's designed to be printed in vase mode for speed and elegance 💅. Each module uses just over 50g of filament.
Let's say you have only 3 grits of sanding discs right now. Print 3 of these little cubbies! Buy another grit? Print one more! The part has a dovetail mating feature so that you can snap the next module into place.
I've been printing these with the following settings:
I am not exactly sure if spiral vase follows the centerline of the model contour or biases to one side. Please let me know if you print this with a different nozzle and if you have success! I've included the STEP file because (a) I'm philosophically all about that and (b) it'll be helpful in case you need to tweak anything to get your prints to fit ~just so~.
Note: the photos all show V12 prints. V12 had an asymmetric fillet on the bottom corners that made visual sense in the model but not in the vase mode print. I resolved this with the V13 update, but I couldn't justify printing 5 more cubbies just for documentation's sake :)
