Better Bandsaw Dust Collection System. King Industrial (2 part, magnetic)

Dust collection is a difficult challenge with any bandsaw.

Mine is a King Industrial KC-1433FXR and came with a very inefficient and essentially useless dust collection solution so I came up with this 2 part dust collection duct that is held together with magnets.

It uses the same attachment points and hardware that holds the original dust collection pipe.

The upper part can be removed in seconds to access the blade adjustments and to allow the lower door to open without having to remove the entire dust collection system.

The system is designed to collect the dust directly under the table and as close as possible to the blade and I have to say it works REALLY WELL!  I makes a HUGE difference in comparison with the stock dust collection.

I believe it would also fit Grizzly saws (G0555) as they are basically the same saw with different branding. You might need to drill a couple of hole in the side of the lower door as I dont believe Grizzly saws originaly come with a dust collection.

Printing

I recommend printing these in Draft mode. (just to save time)

No supports, nothing special.

Assembly

Part required

1.  qty 10   8x3mm round magnets
2.  qty 2    M6 heat set inserts (not 100% necessary)

I chose to use the original screws provided with the saw and installed 2 M6 heat set inserts in the lower part to mount on the lower door of the saw. You could also use longer screws/bolts and pass them all the way through the printed part and secure them with nuts. not as clean but it should work.

You will need  10 8X3mm round magnet (5 for each half). Epoxy or CA glue works great for glueing these in.

There in clearance in the upper part for the lower door knob but you might have to adjust the knob position a bit to get the fit just right. 

if everything is adjusted correctly the upper part should slide right in and the magnets should snap together without a problem.

Versions

There is only 1 version of the upper part but 3 versions of the lower part depending on preference.

There are 2 versions intended for a 4 inch dust collection hose. 1 is angled towards the back of the saw and the other is angled towards the front of the saw.

I also made a version intended for a 2.5 inch shopvac hose because I thought this might be usefull for those without a proper dust collector. I have to say that I have not printed this version and would appreciate feedback on the fit of the hose.

Hope this helps reduce the cleanup time in some shops, it has in mine.
