Description
With Crowsnest making multiple webcams easy to use with MainSail, and OctoPrint soon to add better webcam support, I decided to add a side mounted webcam. I had an ancient Logitech that I could not find a suitable mount for, and I needed something that would mount to the side of a 2020 extrusion without interfering with the 270 degree hinges (at least too much). I used a 3M Command Strip to secure the webcam to the flat top at the end of the bracket. I ran resonance testing and the results were basically the same as before (slightly better), and the webcam did not resonate, so the bracket is stiff enough. The bracket can be installed and removed without removing the door, it just needs to be opened a little. The door can still open more than 90 degrees, so its out of the way for printing PLA.
The bracket requires a M3x30 screw and M3 tee nut. There are two places on the inside of the arm to insert a zip tie to manage the USB cable.
The screen shot shows the views from the OV5648 mounted with the AngryCAM mount over the printbed on the left and the side mounted webcam view on the right. My old Logitech is only 640x480 resolution and its looking through the side panel, so the quality is not great but I can still see if the print failed.
Update: Added a simple remix of the Voron cable clip that is offset to work on the outside of the extrusion to secure the USB cable from the webcam on its way to the electronics bay.
