Description
I didn't like the obstructive center part of the original Eibos Cyclopes filament dryer because it gets in the way when using odd-width spools. Unfortunately, in the available fixes, people have kept the center part. My fix eliminates the center part and requires only four bearings instead of eight.
I dropped the center support, dropped the plastic rollers, dropped four of the bearing, and use two 10mm diameter x 186mm long stainless steel rods.* I have included printable washers to slide onto the rods as dividers between spools of filament.
This fix relies on using Pete R.'s excellent two-part Extension (https://www.printables.com/model/162353-eibos-cyclopes-extension-walls-and-bearing-risers), though I pulled in the PTFE fitting holes from Frittenpit's version (https://www.printables.com/model/255077-eibos-cyclopes-extension-walls-and-bearing-risers-). You can just use Frittenpit's single-piece version if you have a large enough printer bed. If not, use mine which combines both.
I added holes to join the two halves of the extension with 3mm tapered-head screws.
For the lid I am including models for a one-finger handle, filament hole plugs, and exhaust hole plugs. (Make sure you leave off the plugs while drying filament or you will trap the moisture inside the lid.)
Finally, I'm including a Temperature Probe Holder that fits onto the rear center support. This simply aids in holding the wire upright. (You can see it vaguely in the last photo.)
I printed all parts in PETg which seems to work fine. I modified the extrusion width to .65mm (I used PrusaSlicer) to save a lot of time.
You will need the following hardware:
4 3mm x 6mm tapered head screws (for connecting extensions
2 4mm x 8mm domed head screws (for lid handle)
2 Metal washers (for lid handle)
2 10mm diameter x 186mm long stainless steel rods (or 5/16" diam. rods, see note below)
* In the U.S. it is easier to find 5/16" stainless steel rods. If you use these and can print a flexible filament like TPU or TPE, print four of the adapter rings from the model I've included. Note that my photos show the use of 5/16" rods.
